About VGMTP
The Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program (VGMTP) was established in 2005 as a project of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (Victorian Division). It follows the curriculum in Geriatric Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. It is funded by the Victorian Department of Health Services.
VGMTP aims to improve the medical care of older people through:
- Increasing the number of specialist geriatricians through increased recruitment into the training program.
- Improving the training of specialist geriatricians.
- Increasing access to specialist geriatricians through a more diversified workforce.
- Education and training initiatives targeting other stakeholders who provide medical care for older people.
